D.O. Tarragona wines

The Greek were the first civilisation to introduce wine growing in Tarragona area and they implemented the knowledge and savoir-faire for wine elaboration as well. Nevertheless, it was really as from the colonisation of the roman empire (Tarraco the Imperial, capital city of Hispania Citerior) that the main part of the land was converted into a wine farming territory. And it was not only used for local and peninsular consumption but for the grea part of the roman territories. This region, with its Mediterranean climate as a consequence of its maritime influence, registers hot summers and mild winters. the pluviometry of the zone, some 500mm/year together with itshight light hours, some 2600 as well as its miocenic, chalky and frank soil ensure a good vine maturing.
